The concept of Indigenous World Winery emerged as Robert and Bernice Louie’s way of combining the unique terroir of the valley and the Indigenous people's stewardship of these lands. Every effort is being made to produce world class wines in a respectful way to the environment and its people. What makes the agriculture of these lands in the Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys so special is how they were formed over time with glacial ice, volcanic eruptions and geological events producing a truly unique area of the world for producing excellent quality wines.
In 1981, the Okanagan was largely undiscovered as a wine region, instead it was renowned for the quality of its stonefruit orchards. Grape growers were just beginning to take risks, planting vines in unproven terrain. This potential inspired Mission Hill Family Estate’s vision for the future of Okanagan wine. Now, after being recognized as Canada’s only five-time winner of Winery of the Year and receiving multiple best varietal awards on the international stage, they continue to draw inspiration from the valley and the vineyards they tend to. For them, the journey is just beginning.

Organic winemaking practices have been an integral part of Summerhill since the Kelowna vineyard was purchased by the Cipes family in 1986. Producing wine organically has a very meaningful benefit to the environment, and some scientists suggest that eating organic foods greatly benefits our health as well. Aside from these benefits, they believe that organic practices allow for the grapes in their vineyards to honestly express their surroundings, providing deep, terroir-driven qualities that are a true articulation of Okanagan terroir. In addition, their winemaking is also certified organic, allowing them to display the Canadian certified organic logo on their bottles, ensuring you can expect a high level of quality and purity.
Tantalus was established in 2004 when Proprietor Eric Savics was presented with the opportunity to acquire one of the Okanagan Valley’s premier vineyard properties. Originally known as Pioneer Vineyards, the site was first planted to table grapes in 1927 by renowned, local horticulturist JW Hughes. After tasting several vintages of wines made by the former owner, Eric felt this was indeed a very special vineyard. He, along with his team, established the site’s ultimate potential would be fully realized by focusing on a small, terroir-driven line of wines made from Riesling, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
